What if patriarchy ends tomorrow? The Left

If the patriarchy were to fall tomorrow, women would gain full political, economic, and social equality. Wage gaps would disappear, and leadership roles would be equally accessible. Gender-based violence and harassment would drastically reduce. Women would have complete control over their bodies and reproductive choices.

Societal expectations around caregiving and domestic work would no longer fall solely on women. Beauty standards would become more diverse, freeing women from unrealistic pressures. Women’s voices would be amplified in media, science, and history. Access to education, healthcare, and opportunities would be equal.

It sounds utopian but this is the goal that we need to reach. Women are dying, dismantling patriarchy is a matter of life and death, “nous ne voulons plus compter nos mortes”.

A system that only benefits half the population is a system that harms everyone, if patriarchy ends tomorrow men would share power, not lose it.

Women would live with freedom, dignity, and safety. A world without patriarchy is a world where everyone is free of their choice.

Left MEP Irene Montero, Coordinator of the FEMM Committee in the European Parliament (Podemos, Spain): “What would a world be like without patriarchy? It would be a world free of machista violence for all women, in which any woman can decide on her own body, in which all women have our sexual and reproductive rights guaranteed.”

Left MEP Elena Kountoura, member of the FEMM Committee (Syriza, Greece): I don’t only want to imagine a world without patriarchy. As women, we want the world free of patriarchy. We want a world without stereotypes. We deserve to live with freedom and dignity. We have the right for education, for work, for making our own choices for our lives.”

Left MEP Carolina Morace, member of the FEMM Committee (M5S, Italy): “If patriarchy were to fall tomorrow, we would witness the birth of a fairer and more inclusive society. Power structures, historically based on gender inequalities, would be rethought to allow for equal participation of all citizens.”

The fight to end patriarchy is not only possible, it is necessary. It is an everyday fight, and The Left will never stop until the chains are broken for all.
