On a crisp bright early spring afternoon on a\u00a0small uninhabited island in the \u00c5ngerman river in northern Sweden, the stars of\u00a0The Great Moose Migration are proving suitably elusive. Just as they do, for the most part, to viewers of the world\u2019s biggest slow TV phenomenon \u2013 a three-week-long, 450-hour, free-to-view continuous livestream from the V\u00e4sternorrland wilderness that has a global audience of millions mysteriously captivated every year, despite precious little happening at all.<\/p>\n
Hardcore watchers will be lucky to\u00a0spot an \u00e4lg<\/em>, as they are called in Swedish, making their annual crossing\u00a0of the \u00c5ngerman en route to\u00a0richer summer pastures north any\u00a0more frequently on average than about once every 400 minutes. But\u00a0among this landscape, which moose have traversed for 6,000 years,\u00a0traces of the\u00a0illustrious beasts are everywhere if\u00a0you know where to\u00a0look for them. After a bit of raking among some lingonberry bushes, The\u00a0Great Moose Migration producer and co-creator Stefan Edlund eventually finds a firm round lump of\u00a0dried moose dung to hand me. \u201cIt\u2019s\u00a0a bit gross,\u201d he acknowledges, \u201cbut they only eat plants.\u201d<\/p>\n
