Nish Kumar \u2013 mop of curly hair, Jimi Hendrix T-shirt, fancy coffee shop cookie in hand \u2013 is\u00a0sitting centimetres away from me in a meeting room in his publicist\u2019s offices in Soho, central London. Nevertheless, another comedian is drawing the eye.\u00a0On the wall is a massive poster promoting Prime Video\u2019s Last One Laughing UK \u2013 and looming over us from the centre of the frame is the show\u2019s host, Jimmy Carr.<\/p>\n

This feels, let\u2019s just say, a tad ironic. In Kumar\u2019s last standup show, he recalled the time he furiously confronted Carr about his decision to\u00a0appear on manosphere influencer Jordan Peterson\u2019s podcast. (\u201cThis is\u00a0a\u00a0radicalisation event that\u2019s happening\u00a0on an unprecedented scale,\u201d he told Carr.) Then there\u2019s the\u00a0blurb for his upcoming tour, Angry\u00a0Humour from a Really Nice Guy,\u00a0in which Kumar expresses concern that\u00a0comedy has been \u201cco-opted by charlatans in service of\u00a0autocrats\u201d \u2013 partly a reference to\u00a0last\u00a0autumn\u2019s Riyadh comedy festival, where Carr performed.<\/p>\n
