Their makers explain why musical theatre and steamy action are such good bedfellows \u2013 and why there\u2019s no rivalry between them<\/p>\n<p>Five minutes was all it took. The stars of Heated Rivalry barely had a chance to shed each other\u2019s clothes before writer and composer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dylanmarcaurele.com\/\">Dylan MarcAurele<\/a> started taking notes, knowing that the horny hockey TV series was going to be his next parody project. \u201cI had this idea that it would be a one-night-only concert for friends,\u201d says the New York-based writer of fringe hit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/stage\/2025\/may\/26\/pop-off-michelangelo-review-renaissance-camp-underbelly-boulevard\">Pop Off, Michelangelo!<\/a> But then he got producer Alan Kliffer on board, and performances sold out before the script had even been written. \u201cIt was a no-brainer,\u201d Kliffer says. \u201cI trusted it would be good, and I was right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After a successful off-Broadway run, Heated Rivalry: The Unauthorized Musical Parody is now heading for the Edinburgh fringe \u2013 and it\u2019s not alone. Three musical spoofs of the series are hotting up at this year\u2019s festival.
