Malm\u00f6 Dockteater is adapting Jackie Collins\u2019s debut novel about the swinging 60s using anatomically enhanced dolls. Puppets help you explore sex in a different way, they say<\/p>\n

Erik Holmstr\u00f6m holds up a naked, headless Ken doll. Most of the figure is as you\u2019d expect: lean muscles, smooth skin. But lower down, something\u2019s different. Between those hairless thighs is a small plastic penis nestled in a tuft of hair. \u201cIt\u2019s real hair,\u201d says Holmstr\u00f6m, the director of Malm\u00f6 Dockteater<\/a> (that\u2019s \u201cpuppet theatre\u201d in Swedish). Performer and puppeteer Kajsa Ericsson jumps in. \u201cNot real pubic<\/em> hair,\u201d she clarifies.<\/p>\n

This doll is not just a prop of the company\u2019s new show; it\u2019s one of the stars. Malm\u00f6 Dockteater has adapted Jackie Collins\u2019s debut novel, The World Is Full of Married Men<\/a>, into an experimental puppet production that leaps fearlessly into the explicit sex scenes that got the novel banned in several countries when it was first published in 1968. After performances in Malm\u00f6 and Stockholm, the company is bringing the show to the newly refurbished Yard theatre in east London, where it will be performed in Swedish with English subtitles.<\/p>\n
