He is King Aerys II Targaryen, ancestor of one warring bloodline in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/tv-and-radio\/2019\/dec\/30\/game-of-thrones-best-tv-2010s\">Game of Thrones<\/a>, the dramatisation of George RR Martin\u2019s A Song of Ice and Fire series of fantasy novels that helped TV streamers\u2019 rise to global domination during eight HBO seasons from 2011 to 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Some may balk at an institution named for England\u2019s greatest dramatist staging an American drama franchise.
