When we\u2019d gone on David Essex\u2019s Showcase<\/a> earlier in 1982, in the middle eight I sang \u201cA wink from Wilbur, a kiss from Kurt, don\u2019t tell Hank, he might get hurt\u201d \u2013 all names of my backing band the Wilsations. But when it came to recording, I said to Tot Taylor, who wrote most of my early singles, including Love Man and Baby It\u2019s True, \u201cWe can\u2019t sing that because no one will know who they are. What about, \u2018A mink from Paris, a ring from Rome, a whole new wardrobe in my home?\u2019\u201d Tot, such a brilliant writer, took it from there.<\/p>\n
