Silver used AI, feeding it prompts such as \u201cTell me the story of Molly Russell\u201d. This \u00adhumanises the AI while dehumanising users. <\/p>\n<p>Taking the role of \u00adantagonist, the computer embodies the now incredibly familiar names in tech\u2014Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg and Peter Thiel.<\/p>\n<p>Starting with Bill Clinton\u2019s Internet Global Free Trade Zone, we\u2019re shown how the unregulated power of tech and social media companies profit from experimenting on us.<\/p>\n<p>The film follows the rise of sites such as Facebook and talks to whistleblowers. By doing this, it carefully examines the vast, unchecked power we give big tech.<\/p>\n<p>It shows how tech is \u00adinextricably tangled in our l\u00adives. In a chilling moment, we\u2019re told how in the minutes before she took her own life, Molly\u2019s phone was \u00adtracking the distance of her steps around her bedroom.<\/p>\n<p>The restaging of the inquest and emails exposed by legal cases show the brazen confidence of the tech companies.<\/p>\n<p>Lotte Rubaek is a \u00adpsychologist who quit Meta after it refused to take on board any of her opinions on social media and its impact on mental health.<\/p>\n<p>She said, \u201cThey want to believe they can be part of the solution without ever being part of the problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The film doesn\u2019t just focus on Molly\u2019s story. It also emphasises how social media companies are lining their pockets.<\/p>\n<p>Though the verdict of the inquest into Molly\u2019s death was a landmark victory, the film explores the limits of this kind of justice.<\/p>\n<p>In the words of one of Molly\u2019s friends, the gavel goes down but nothing changes.<\/p>\n<p>Molly vs the Machines is an incredible film made possible by the phenomenal bravery of Ian Russell. It is a message to fight against these companies for our privacy, autonomy and perhaps our lives.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h5>Remembering is an a act of resistance in Brazil<\/h5>\n<p>The Secret Agent it is a historical thriller which follows Armando as he flees from persecution and resists dictatorship.<\/p>\n<p>The film is different from most, if not all, films about the Brazilian military dictatorship that lasted from 1964 to 1985.<\/p>\n<p>The plot of the film is not focused on the regime itself, or on a single \u201cgreat person\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Secret Agent is the story of a man who is trying to recover memories of his mum and reunite with his son.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the story of the common people who, because of political repression, had to flee their cities and change their names to survive.<\/p>\n<p>Through this people\u2019s history, the film shows us how deep the scars left in Brazilian society are.<\/p>\n<p>The scars come from a time when all the news outlets had to tell fantastical stories because they couldn\u2019t tell the truth.<\/p>\n<p>From a time when names were lost and families\u2019 histories were forgotten.<\/p>\n<p>The way that writer and director Kleber Mendonca develops the plot reveals what\u2019s happening and what causes revolt.<\/p>\n<p>Other films on the topic would make sure to state that the regime committed crimes against humanity. The regime tortured, kidnaped and murdered people.<\/p>\n<p>But this film makes sure to also show that the military dictatorship in Brazil committed crimes of \u201clesa patria\u201d\u2013crimes against the sovereignty of a nation.<\/p>\n<p>The regime claimed to represent the nation and waved the Brazilian flag. But at the same time it operated the state apparatus to benefit foreign companies.<\/p>\n<p>The regime made enemies of all of those that could endanger the profit making of the big international companies that supported the regime.<\/p>\n<p>The Secret Agent is a beautiful film. It is a film about memory. The memory of the city of Recife in north east Brazil.
