Israeli colonialism has decimated Gaza (Picture: Wikimedia/Creative Commons)
The new Al Jazeera documentary, War Crimes in Gaza, succeeds in showing how the “most moral army in the world” is flaunting international laws and dehumanising Palestinian people.
The documentary a forensic and chronological approach to the rapid build-up of war crimes throughout the past year.
It uses a comprehensive collection of the most traumatic and disturbing images that have circled around social media, many posted by the Israeli forces themselves.
It is a condemnation of an “unprofessional” military that has committed crimes against humanity, with support from key world leaders.
The focus on evidence and experiences of the Palestinians is radically different from most mainstream media, because it humanises the victims of an ongoing genocide.
The documentary ties international complicity into the picture, in particular the use of the RAF base in Cyprus as a site for British surveillance flights over Gaza. The documentary also provides a bottom‑up insight to the lives of Palestinians during a genocide.
It provides a valuable counter narrative to the likes of the BBC and CNN. But it falls short on offering a solution—which is so desperately needed.
And that’s where socialists and campaigners must engage with the questions Al Jazeera left unanswered.
